Winter Cranberry Apple Crisp
Not all winter desserts are heavy and rich. This Winter Cranberry Apple Crisp is lightly sweet, slightly tart, and perfectly satisfying. The combination of fruits in this apple cranberry crisp is nicely balanced because the apples are sweet but the cranberries have more of a tart flavor. Brown sugar, cinnamon, and orange zest marry the fruits together and help to form a caramel sweet sauce as everything bakes. This apple crisp is topped with a wonderful oat, brown sugar, and spice mixture. Serve this easy apple crisp with whipped cream or ice cream for a treat that won't leave you feeling too stuffed.

Do you have a preference on the apple brand you choose for this recipe? I like your tip about using one bag of cranberries and more apple to make the crisp sweeter. I think I will have to make a batch of each to see how they turn out and let the hubby and kids taste test them and see what they think. I am sure I will love the sweeter one, but you never know. Do you use fresh or frozen cranberries?
