Can I omit the walnuts, or should I substitute something we can use with our tree nut allergy instead? How crispy does this recipe turn out? I can never find a crisp recipe that is crunchy enough. If you get too much liquid, the oats always soak it up and get mushy on me.

I like apples so much that I usually am perfectly content to eat them straight, but this recipe looks too tempting not to try!
