When it comes to dessert, presentation is important. Decorating Cookies: 60+ Designs for Holidays, Celebrations & Everyday gives step-by-step instructions on how to make your cookies look fun and festive. As the cookbook implies, decorating cookies is actually easier than you might think. Each tutorial features high quality color photos for every step so that you can perfectly mimic the technique of author Bridget Edwards and make treats that will make everyone smile and ask you "How did you do that?"
The first few chapters of the book outline cookie decorating basics, including all of the ingredients and tools you'll need for decorating, as well as their purposes and the differences between them. There's also a small technique guide included that quickly teaches you the basics of decorating, including what each of the techniques looks like (like marbling, detail piping, and making flat dots).
The book's next section has a few standard cookie recipes that are the best for decorating, including Vanilla-Almond Sugar Cookies and Key Lime Pie Cookies. The section also has a recipe for making your own homemade Royal Icing, which you'll of course need to for every single one of these tutorials.
This book's tutorials (or projects, as the author refers to them), range from everyday designs like dragonflies, daisies, and monogrammed houses, to cookie designs for specific occasions. For instance, there are designs for a trip to the circus, as well as wedding showers and Valentine's Day. My personal favorites are the Slice of Pumpkin Pie and Dia de los Muertos designs. They're just so cute and festive.
All of the projects in this book have so much detail, yet are so easy to make. Even those who don't have a ton of artistic ability will be able to create perfectly decorated cookies. All you'll need are a few cookie cutters (and/or some of the cookie cutter templates in the back of this book), your very own copy of Decorating Cookies, and a bit of creativity and you'll have a batch of cute, delicious cookies in no time.
