Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly butter a bake dish which will hold both apples with 1 inch between them and the sides.

  2. Slice off the top (stem end) of the apples. Use a melon baller to remove the cores but do not go all the way through the apples. Use a paring knife to make two deep circular cuts in the apples from the top between the skin and the core. Go down as far as possible without cutting through the skin. Turn the apple cut side down onto the work surface and make vertical cuts about 1/2 inch apart through the skin to the core. Turn the apples cut side up again and stack 2 caramels into each core. Place apples into the prepared bake dish.

  3. In a microwaveable bowl, melt the butter and brown sugar for 30-40 seconds. Stir until it is smooth, then stir in the flour and cinnamon. Spoon this mixture over the top of the apples. Bake 30 45 minutes until the apples are completely cooked and the petals begin to come away from the center; the exact time will depend on the variety and size of the apples.

  4. Top with powdered sugar or a scoop of ice cream and serve while still warm.
