Notes
- If you'd like colored cookies, you can tint the dough with a few drops of food coloring.
- Cookies may be iced and decorated after they're finished cooling. If you're planning on just decorating them with sprinkles, it's easiest to pour them on right before sticking the cookie sheets in the oven.
- Though they're traditionally Christmas cookies, you can make these cookies for any holiday you'd like, including Halloween and Easter.

Ingredients
- 1 cup Butter Flavor Crisco® all-vegetable shortening (or 1 Butter Flavor Crisco® stick)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
-
Mix shortening, sugar, and powdered sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer (hand or stand mixer). Beat at medium speed until ingredients are well blended.
-
Beat in egg, salt, vanilla, and almond extract. Then, stir in flour. If you find that the dough is a little too stiff or dry, add a little water. If you find that the dough is too soft, add a bit of extra flour.
-
Fill a cookie press with the dough. Press the dough into desired shapes about two inches apart on cool, ungreased baking sheets. Do not use parchment paper or a silicone baking mat because the pressed cookies will not stick to it.
-
Bake cookies for 5-7 minutes, or until set but not brown. Allow cookies to cool for 1 minute on baking sheets, and then move them to wire cooling racks so they can cool completely.
